Instructors and administrators: If you are uploading documents to the VLE which include links to the Blackboard server (vlebb.leeds.ac.uk), be aware that you must use the correct, secure ‘https’ address:
If you do not use this address, the document may become corrupt.
This is due to a quirk in the hardware between you and the VLE, called a load balancer. These machines ensure traffic is never too high on any of our Blackboard servers, and they also do other work including fixing all insecure ‘http://vlebb.leeds.ac.uk’ references in the data traffic to the VLE. Unfortunately they do this so well they can find and rewrite this text within a document, with the end result that some susceptible formats, like Word files, can become corrupt.
How to avoid this:
- Use the correct adress: https://vlebb.leeds.ac.uk – The ‘s’ in ‘https’ is very important.
- If using Word, accept all changes and turn off Track Changes before uploading
- In Word, ensure the displayed text as well as the URL is correct for any VLE links you include.
