Minerva performance issues – update 23/02

On Tuesday 22 February Minerva experienced issues from approximately 16:05-16:45. A second related incident occurred at 18:20-18:30, although users may have noticed slow performance immediately after this time period.

Our vendor has identified the root cause of the issue to be the module catalogue link in the module menu. Therefore, this link has been disabled until the issue is permanently resolved to prevent further performance issues.

Staff/students will at present not see the Module Catalogue link in the module menu:

Resolved – Turnitin service disruption

Between 11:07 and 11:44 on Tuesday 8th February, students may have encountered errors when attempting to submit, and staff when they attempted to view files through Turnitin.

This issue has now been resolved.

Minerva maintenance – Friday 7th January at 3am

Minerva will be unavailable for approximately 1 minute on Friday 7th January at 3am (GMT) for essential maintenance. We have been in discussion with the vendor who recommended this short downtime period which is required to apply a change that will increase capacity. This is in preparation for the up and coming January assessment period when it is expected that staff and students will be making increased use of the service.

Protecting your Minerva account

Duo two-factor authentication has already improved security for your Office 365 account, and it’s now been rolled out to Minerva.

What do I need to do?

When you log into Minerva, you’ll be prompted to complete Duo two-factor authentication whenever you log in to Minerva (similar to when you log in to Office 365). You’ll only need to complete Duo authentication when you are prompted for your username and password.

Minerva upgrade begins 5pm today (Friday 6th August)

Minerva upgrade

Minerva is being upgraded to the latest version of Blackboard at the beginning of August. Minerva will be unavailable from 5.00 pm on Friday 6 August until Wednesday 11 August while the upgrade takes place. During this time you won’t have access to content. Access to other University systems will be unaffected. Please be sure to download any teaching materials you need for revision before upgrade begins.

An online Minerva guide for staff, highlighting changes following the upgrade, is now available, alongside a summary of key changes for staff. A guide for students has also been published.

Duo Authentication

Whenever you log in to Minerva after upgrade you’ll be prompted to complete Duo two-factor authentication. If you haven’t already signed up to Duo make sure you do so now – don’t leave it until the last minute. Find out more about Duo on the IT website.

Turnitin maintenance notification – Aug 14 2021

Turnitin will be unavailable for 2 hours on August 14,  1600 – 1800 BST.
