eAssessment survival guide for students

If you read one thing before taking your next online assessment, read this: http://www.leeds.ac.uk/vle/students/assess/eassessment/

We cover the common pitfalls of eAssessment and what to do if things go wrong.

Staff: If you have online assessment in your VLE module, encourage your students to read the guide by adding the link.

Comments are welcome, however if you need help or advice please contact the IT Helpdesk on tel (0113) 343 3333, via the online contact form, or helpdesk@leeds.ac.uk.

Questionmark and the Grade Centre

Reminder: When deploying Questionmark  assessments in the VLE note that any assessment scheduled since July 2013 will not record results in the VLE Grade Centre.

To obtain results you will need to request a report via the IT Helpdesk: http://www.leeds.ac.uk/vle/staff/assess/questionmark_schedule/ (see the More Info section).

Staff are also reminded that Questionmark should only be used for high stakes summative assessment. Please read the post from earlier this year for further information: https://vleservice.wordpress.com/2013/06/17/vle-formative-lssumm/

We also recommend that you read our best practice guide on delivering high stakes summative assessment using Questionmark before scheduling assessments: http://www.leeds.ac.uk/vle/staff/assess/questionmark/

Comments are welcome, however if you need help or advice please contact the IT helpdesk on tel (0113) 343 3333, via the online contact form, or helpdesk@leeds.ac.uk.

Display issue – Questionmark scheduling in Internet Explorer

Staff using Internet Explorer 8 or 9 to schedule Questionmark assessments in the VLE will notice a display glitch in the ‘Schedule an Assessment page’, which makes it difficult to enter a schedule name and description.

We have identified and are testing a fix, and will update the blog when it’s resolved.

In the interim you are advised to use the Chrome or Firefox browsers to schedule assessments.

This issue does not impact on students taking the assessment in IE8, which will continue to work normally. Students should only take assessments in IE8, Firefox or Chrome.

Comments are welcome, however if you need help or advice please contact the ISS helpdesk on tel (0113) 343 3333, or helpdesk@leeds.ac.uk.

VLE test tools recommended for formative and low stakes summative use

Following a review of Questionmark Perception (QMP) use at Leeds, a decision has been made to remove QMP from formative and low stakes summative use. This has been ratified by the Blended Learning & Learning Technology Innovations Group (BLLTIG).

The use of QMP will be limited to high stakes summative and invigilated assessments.
