Help your students plan their workload

We’ve added a new tool to the VLE: Tasks. It is a simple way to provide students with a list  of things they need to do for the module. Tasks can be given a due date and different priorities.

For more information, read the short guide: http://www.leeds.ac.uk/vle/staff/guides/tasks.htm

Wimba Voice Tools in the VLE

The Voice Tools product will be discontinued following the VLE Upgrade this summer. These tools are: Voice Authoring; Voice Email; Voice Board; Voice Presentation; Wimba Podcaster.

After nearly three years of use the take-up for this product has been very small. Less than 1% of modules are utilising a voice tool at considerable cost, and it has been decided the product no longer represents the best use of University resources.

There is an alternative tool already in the VLE for distributing voice recordings (Podcast Episode) and the University provides audio recording tools on the Student and Staff desktops. The VLE Service will look to explore further options in this area during the coming academic year.

To ease the transition existing content will be extracted for current users who wish to reuse the content. The VLE Service and Faculty Contacts will be in touch if you manage a module which uses the current Voice Tools.

New My Modules tool in the VLE

You should see a new My Modules tool in your VLE home page today. By default the tool will show the current academic year. There’s a complete guide to the My Modules tool on the VLE Help website.

The tool includes a tabbed and paged interface to accommodate our users with lots of modules, and will remember your custom settings for the number of modules to display. The tool should make the modules list more manageable as staff and students accumulate modules year on year.
